FASHIONING ARCHITECTURE

A second year studio run collaboratively in 2006 between the Welsh School of Architecture (WSA) at Cardiff University, and the Newport School of Art, Media and Design explored the parallels which can be drawn between architectural and fashion design processes. Both the architectural and the fashion design studios emphasise relationships between the body, movement and space, as well as understandings of the specific qualities of materials, and progressions through two and three-dimensional studies.

This short architectural project, drawing inspiration from the immediacy and directness of the fashion design process, invited an awareness of the challenges and potential of progressing architectural concepts through the material testing of full scale constructions.
