Landscape Workshop - Westray Heritage Centre
Orkney Isles, completed 2008
In the field of the Heritage Centre, Collaborative Design Studio designed a landscape drawing from elements of Westray's distinct heritage. With a group of students from the Welsh School of Architecture, and funding from Awards for All, Scottish Natural Heritage, The Russell Trust and Westray Community Council, a one week workshop carried out the building of works including traditional 'tangle' dikes and a boat noust.
Commodity and landscape formed the mechanism of economy in Westray through farming, fishing, and gathering as means of maintaining a well established island life.
